When blood pressure is higher than&#8211;0/90 that is considered high blood pressure or hypertension. Normal blood pressure is 120/80 or lower. High blood pressure occurs because the flow of blood encounters resistance in the arteries.</p>
<p>Approximately one third of adult Americans have high blood pressure, and 30% of them don&#8217;t know it! This is why hypertension is also known as &#8220;the silent killer.&#8221; It has no outward warning signs and no definitive cause. Left unchecked, high blood pressure elevates your risk for heart attack, stroke, kidney damage, and other conditions that may result from too much pressure in delicate blood vessels and tissues. Your heart also enlarges as it struggles to pump blood effectively through the body, which decreases its efficiency.<br />

Calcium, cholesterol and various minerals can form deposits inside blood vessels, making them smaller and sometimes completely stopped up. This process, which increases blood pressure because it slows blood flow, has several names &#8211; hardening of the arteries, arterial plaque build up, arteriosclerosis or atherosclerosis.</p>
<p>Traditional medicine tends to prescribe drugs for lowering blood pressure, with no attention to the cause of high blood pressure. If results are not forthcoming with drugs, more drugs are prescribed, with little or no regard for the side effects of the medications. Certainly drugs can lower blood pressure. But at what cost in side effects and neglect of the cause of the high blood pressure?</p>

<p>Chelation therapy is a solution that produces little or no side effects. Chelation therapy involves the use of chemical compounds injected into the blood stream with an IV drip. <p>There are 2 primary omega 3 essential fatty acids called DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). These are good fats and contrary to what you might have been told about fat in your diet, getting plenty of DHA and EPA is good for you.</p>
<p>Certainly saturated fat that you get from animal products such as red meat and chicken is a bad fat and your intake of saturated fat should be limited. However the essential fatty acids called omega 3 fatty acids are extremely important to good health and are not manufactured in your body and therefore to ensure an adequate intake of Omega3 fats you need to eat a lot of fish or take daily fish oil pills.<br />

Studies have shown that way too many of us, in fact almost all of us in the US, have too little omega 3 fatty acids in our diet. Studies of populations in countries where fish and seafood are important in the diet show that these people have much better heart health than we do and the studies show that this is a result of their superior intake of fish.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s a wide range of health benefits from increasing your intake of essential fatty acids. These health benefits include improvments in heart health and these are now recognized by the American Heart Association which recommends minimum intakes of DHA and EPA for each of us every week. They suggest eating more fish or else taking Omega 3 capsules.</p>

<p>The health benefits include a reduced risk of death from heart disease and heart attack, lowering triglycerides, lowering blood pressure and reducing the build of plaque in the arteries. Other health benefits include an improvement in brain function and memory, a reduction in the risk of macular degeneration causing blindness in older age and a reduction in a range of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and lots lots more.</p>
<p>DHA makes up a major part of the fats in our brain and a developing fetus has a powerful demand for DHA for optimum <img class="size-full wp-image-316 alignright" title="omega3 fish oils for pregnant women" src="http://safeweightloss.in/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/omega3-fish-oils-for-pregnant-women.jpg" alt="omega3 fish oils for pregnant women" width="300" height="351" />brain development. Studies also show that infants raised on an adequate intake of Omega3 fats do better on IQ tests.</p>
<p>Clearly we should all be increasing our intake of DHA and EPA, but how do you do that? Eating more fish is one option. However fish is very expensive and there are only certain fish which have high levels of these essential fatty acids. And fish is generally contaminated with nasty toxins such as PCBs, mercury, pesticides and various heavy metals and the EPA tells us not to eat too much fish because of this.</p>
<p>However fish oil pills offer the perfect solution. These are small capsules of fish oil which can be taken easily. For children it is simply a matter of cutting the top off the capsule and tipping the oil onto their food. The best fish oil pills are entirely contamination free and a much more cost-effective than eating fish, and can safely be taken daily.</p>
<p>But there are wide variations in the amount of DHA, the most important Omega 3 fat, in the different omega 3 supplements available and it&#8217;s difficult to compare one brand of supplements with another.</p>
